Hudspeth County was named after the separation from El Paso County. Its’ county seat is Sierra Blanca, with ranching as the major agronomic enterprise. The county also has two other communities Dell City and Ft. Hancock both are irrigated farming valleys with the major crops being; cotton, alfalfa, and vegetables. Other economic enterprises for the county are cattle, hunting, tourism and mining.
Hudspeth County lies proudly in Far West Texas bordered by New Mexico on the north and Mexico on the south. It is comprised of rugged mountains and valleys. Recreation in Hudspeth includes scenic drives, visits to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and time spend in the Vast outdoors. There are ample opportunities for hunting and backpacking.
Demographically, projections for Hudspeth County in the year 2000. Show little anticipated change. In 1997, its population was 3339. Gender population is comprised as follows: men (1736), and women (1603). The majority of the population by the year 2000 will be Hispanics (2,437), followed by Anglos (902). Hudspeth County Per Capita Personal Income (PCPI) in 1997 was $31,078, which was an increase from the 1987 (PCPI) of $27,480.
